Wainuiomata and us!
In this job, we get to meet some of the most amazing people - and guess what? They all live right here in Wainuiomata!!
Being Wainuiomata's Community Pharmacy for the past 15 years means that if it is on in Wainuiomata - we'll be there! In fact, there are very few times when we're not doing something to support our community, from talking to the Stroke Club to sponsoring a sports club or even running a colouring competition for our local children - or collecting for the blind!
Wainuiomata's Community Stars (October 2012)
As part of our 15th Birthday celebrations, and as a "thank you" for the support of the Wainuiomata community over those 15 years, Unichem Clive's Pharmacy (the Happy Chemist) sought applications from local community groups and not for profit organisations for a share of a $7500 Community Stars fund. The winning 15 groups were announced by Clive Cannons and Lower Hutt Mayoress Linda Goss, at a Cocktail Evening in Wainuomata on Thursday, 25 October.

"A massive thanks to ALL the Wainuiomata Community Groups who entered our Community Stars competition. I have been overwhelmed with the response to our birthday celebrations and humbled because it is evident thatthere are many people in Wainuiomata who are living not for themselves, but for others. There are many people who have seen a need in this community and rather than wait for someone else to come along, or wait for more resources, or a more qualified person, have just gone out and with a passion, have tried to meet that need. In reading all the entries, it is evident that the Wainuiomata traditions begun 60 years ago of support for each other and care and involvement in the community is as strong as ever and that's something we should all be very proud of.
I had a few sleepless nights trying to choose just 15 winners. I wish that I could have helped every organisation but unfortunately that wasn't possible. To those who were not successful this time around, please keep up the good work. You are making a positive difference in people's lives and to the Wainuiomata community.
To the successful groups, congratulations and we can't wait to hear progress reports on your projects."

New Zealand's No 1 Pharmacy is RIGHT HERE in Wainuiomata!

Unichem Clive's Pharmacy has been voted No 1 by the New Zealand Pharmacy Awards at a glittering ceremony held in Auckland on 18th June.
Delighted at winning the ‘Best Community Pharmacy' in New Zealand category earlier in the evening, Clive (a.k.a. ‘The Happy Chemist') Cannons, was "absolutely stoked" when his pharmacy also won the ‘Supreme Award.' This is essentially the award for best overall pharmacy from each of the 11 individual category winners.
Because Clive is a self professed "proud Wainuiomatian" be wore his green and black Wainuiomata rugby socks under his dinner suit at the awards dinner.
Says Clive, "We've won this before but I think it's an even bigger achievement the second time around. It just shows that we haven't rested on our laurels and are constantly looking at new and creative ways to look after our customers and grow our business. Of course, we do have the best team and the best customers, from the best local community in New Zealand, and this award is for them too."
The event was established to reward excellence and innovation to companies that set higher benchmark standards in the industry. For a small business in Wainuiomata to be recognized as being the absolute best in New Zealand, is a significant achievement.
