Clives Winter Update

As the chill of winter starts to bite, we are seeing a surge in the number of winter illnesses including colds, flu and Covid. Thankfully the shortest day is just around the corner!

With considerable pressure on GPs, the team at Clive’s Chemist are a great first port of call if you are feeling unwell. We are providing a growing range of professional services to help you manage those winter ills and chills, including:

  • A nurse in the pharmacy one to two days per week.

  • Sore throat checks to detect and treat strep throat infections, which can lead to Rheumatic Fever.

  • Minor ailments service, where pharmacists consult and treat a variety of conditions at no charge (funded by DHB and conditions apply).

Please read on for further information. First up though we want to let you know that prescription charges are changing from 1 July 2024. 

Government Changes to Prescription Charges from 1 July 2024

The Government is reinstating prescription charges at $5 per item* from 1 July 2024. However, there are a number of exemptions.

Prescription charges will not apply to the following groups:

• Individuals aged 65 and over

• Children aged 14 years and under

• Holders of community services cards.

If you are eligible for an exemption, we want to make sure you receive it. Is your Community Services Card current? (Charges will apply if your Community Services Card is not current.) Community Pharmacy Acute Care Service

Meadow, our Nurse will be providing the Community Pharmacy Acute Care Service in our store on alternate Thursdays and every Friday.

Her services include:

  • Nurse triage of acute conditions (under 14s free, 14+ $10)*

  • Referral to online Doctor if needed

  • Sore throat assessment (free)

  • Skin assessments, eczema, eye infections (free for under 14s, Community Service Card holders, Maori and Pacifica)*

  • Vaccinations and Blood Glucose monitoring

  • Administration of injections prescribed by your GP

  • Blood pressure checks and nurse advice

* Wound care products may incur an extra charge.

At this stage, this service is walk-in consultations, however there may be a waiting time. We are also happy to take bookings. Talk to our team or come and see us.

Great News! We can consult and prescribe treatments for:

• Diarrhoea and vomiting, and dehydration

• Eye infections

• Skin infections

• Eczema or dermatitis

• Scabies

• Headlice – nits, kutis, kutu bugs, utu or riha

The consultation and any prescribed medicines will be FREE for eligible patients. Talk to one of our friendly team to find out more.

Be on the Lookout for Strep Throat

We also offer free instore sore throat checks which can detect strep throat, common in school-age children. Characterised by a red and swollen tonsils, painful swallowing, sore throat and swollen, tender lymph nodes in the neck, strep throat, when left untreated, can lead to Rheumatic Fever so if you have any concerns, come and see us.
