Celebrating World Pharmacists Day: 25 September 2024

This year’s theme, “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs” highlights the expanding role pharmacists play in healthcare.

No longer confined to simply filling prescriptions, today’s pharmacists are key contributors to general healthcare. We offer vital support to the Wainuiomata community in diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

You can call on our pharmacists for help with many health conditions and an initial check-in will cost you nothing. Not sure what you’re dealing with? We can tell you if you’re experiencing hayfever or sinus problems, or if your sore throat is strep throat. We can identify many minor ailments, give advice and prescribe medications, so if you can’t get in to see your GP, come and see us. We are your allied health professionals, helping to ease the pressure on our community’s GPs.

How Our Pharmacists Can Help

We offer care and assistance in three main areas:

1.      Our minor ailments service covers many health issues and for certain conditions, we provide a free service. Come and see us. As your allied health professional, we may be able to give you the assistance you need without the need to see your GP. We can treat your diarrhea/dehydration, eye infections and inflammation, scabies, head lice, eczema/dermatitis, and minor skin infections. We can clean and dress your wound, give vaccinations, check and treat your sore throat, help you quit vaping or smoking, provide the morning after pill, prescribe antibiotics for UTIs (for females under 65s), monitor your blood pressure and offer a discreet consultation for erectile dysfunction.

2.      Our team of pharmacists is highly trained (pharmacy training is five years!) With our in-depth knowledge of pharmacology and pharmacokinetics[CC1] , we can help you with your medicines and make them work for you. We can look at your dosages and help you navigate any barriers which make it difficult for you to take your medicines. Talk to us.

3.      General health advice and disease prevention. With doctors increasingly busy treating illnesses, we are relied on for our knowledge in living a healthy lifestyle and/or managing illness. If you have received a diagnosis of diabetes or high cholesterol for example, we have plenty of resources available. We can advise you on what you can do and what supplements you can take to manage your condition.

You don’t have to rely on Google for answers or worry yourself with self-diagnoses. A visit to see our pharmacists costs you nothing and we can offer peace of mind with professional advice and care. Whether your concerns involve men’s health, menopause, children’s ailments like coughs and sore throats, or other minor issues, we are here to help.

Pop in and see us, or book an appointment time for prioritised care. We’re here to help you stay healthy and feel your best.
